With our stunning range of home compostable Nespresso coffee capsules, Louise and I want to share some tips to help you lead the way in effortless sustainability.

Each of these coffee capsules is 100% certified home compostable, which means each biodegradable Nespresso coffee capsule beauty will easily break down in your garden or organic waste.

What does home compostable really mean?
In a nutshell, home compostable refers to the materials in your Nespresso coffee capsules that can break down naturally in a home composting environment (garden or organic waste).

But what does that entail, you ask? Well, home composting provides a handy way to turn your waste into nutrient-rich compost that enriches the soil in your garden. This helps close the loop on our coffee consumption cycle and reduces the burden on landfills.

How are home compostable capsules made?
The secret behind this home compostable power lies inside each capsule's materials. Using renewable and natural bioplastics, each Nespresso coffee capsule is 100% plant-based and has been individually crafted from natural plant oils and converted into a new generation of biopolymer. It’s then wrapped in a bio-based cellulose label ensuring a high barrier to oxygen.

Great, I’m ready to compost, what do I need to know?
For your home compost garden pile to be a real winner, you’ll need to keep an eye on it, and you’ll need to be patient (we know, that’s tough!). The pile needs a balance of green (food scraps) and brown (garden waste) materials, along with regular turning to aerate the pile.

Handy Home Composting Hints:

Preparation - Begin your compost pile on bare earth to ensure good ventilation

Drainage - Lay twigs, leaves or straw to help support drainage

Layer - Like a cake, add layers of materials to the pile, alternate moist and dry

Activate - If available, add manure to activate the pile - this helps speed things up

Water - Add water occasionally to keep pile moist, or let our weather do its thing

Cover - Retain heat in the pile by covering it with wood, scraps or plastic

Rotate - To add oxygen, try to turn and rotate the pile every 2-3 weeks

Boom! - Your capsules will compost in ambient temps (20-30 deg) in just 26 weeks!

If you’re composting indoors using a compost bin, remember to line your compost bin with paper towels or newspaper first - your layered food scraps will do the rest!

Remember, you can always use our dedicated Courier & Compost Service and return your used capsules to us, we’d be happy to compost them for you.
