As consumers we know things are changing. We are much more conscious about big issues like climate change and global warming. We realize that we will be called upon to change habits in the near future. We’ll be making more balanced and informed decisions about who we buy our products from. It will no longer be acceptable for brands to focus solely on the product and to package it in any which way. We won’t buy things that do not consider their waste impact. Brands of the future will make it easy for you to look after the waste management of their product because in a moral way they’ll still own it. The really smart brands will also provide real solutions for turning waste into the raw materials for a new product; that's called cradle to cradle waste management.
In March this year, Coffee Capsules 2U set out to provide good coffee at a fair price to you. In New Zealand, we are paying too much for stuff and as a result we are unnecessarily exporting our hard won dollars to other countries. Now that’s a problem worth solving. So we did.
As responsible kiwis we didn't want to contribute to the capsule landfill waste problem either. In fact, we wanted to solve it. So we did. Our Return and Recycle option is more than a clever example of Kiwi ingenuity – it is our future. A future that is now. New Zealand is a small country, we have to import our coffee capsules, so let’s use the waste as a raw material to do good. We repurpose your coffee waste into growing local food, and what we can't reuse, we arrange to recycle it here in New Zealand. This is an example of how brands can partner with consumers in how they buy, use and dispose of products. Cradle to cradle; that is the good that we believe in.
We say that we “make it easy for you to go good”. We do. We also want to help you do so much more. Did you know that if you throw your pods in the domestic waste they go to landfill? Any pods, bio pods or recyclable plastics, will not get composted or recycled. Ask your local council about this. We did. The only viable waste management solution is to collect your pods and process them as a separate waste stream. Currently, only Nespresso and Coffee Capsules 2U provide this option. And because we love New Zealand like you do, we intend to expand our Return and Recycle option to all coffee capsules; not just our brand, every brand. Let’s solve the problem once and for all. We have a bit to do to set this up, and we are going to need some help, but we are working hard towards this goal.
We help you make your morning coffee good. It’s a part of your day where you deserve to feel good about things. So do. Make a positive step towards the future. One that is easy; as easy as throwing your capsules in the bin.
So next time you think to yourself “Nespresso, what else?” there is only one answer and that is Coffee Capsules 2U.

Congratulations Patrick. First sincere, sensible commitment to the packing disposal problem I’ve read. Really hope you get the additional help you need to expand to recycle other brands. You’ve convinced me and my capsules won’t be going into landfill in future. Great approach. All power to you.
